In this COVID-19 Virtual Roundtable: The Fall Semester from Campus Rec Magazine, five campus rec professionals shared where they are now with COVID-19 during the fall semester and what they are planning for the future.

The Panel

  • Kim Clark, the director of Campus Recreation at the University of Houston
  • Jeff Hunt, the director of Campus Recreation at the University of Maine
  • Tony Price, the director of Recreation Services at the University of Colorado Boulder
  • Dale Ramsay, the director of Intramural Sports at the University of Louisville
  • Jay Souza, the director of Recreation and Wellness at the University of South Florida

How it works: The panelists give a brief overview in this roundtable on the fall semester and how they’ve responded to COVID-19. Then they take a deeper look at the spring semester, what their plans are and spend time answering questions from the audience on various topics.

Things to look out for:

  • The University of South Florida opened August 24, only to close again September 14 due to six student staff members testing positive for COVID-19. Hear how Souza responded and what changes it has brought about since reopening on October 5, 2020.
  • Both the University of Louisville and the University of Colorado are taking extra steps to serve quarantined students. What they are up to deals with food.
  • Each director shares his/her top lessons learned over the past six months, including using this time as leverage for things like automatic faucets.
  • Detailed plans for what is happening between the fall and spring semester are shared. Find out what each university’s operating hours will be, or if they are even going to be open.
  • Ramsay shared what many might be feeling: He misses the students. Even those challenging talks of why someone needs to be kicked out of flag football for a season.
