Did you know that while the tires on your car wear down and are replaced, they never really disappear? Tires are not biodegradable, and with millions scrapped every year, you can imagine how many are in landfills.
However, one company is doing its part in what they say is the most problematic source of waste we face today. REGUPOL reclaims over 9 million tires from landfills every year. They make surface solutions for a variety of industries, including campus recreation.
The REGUPOL Beginning
Started in 1954, REGUPOL is a global family business that looks to care for the environment. Wil Younger, the American marketing manager, said that core mission has driven the long-term thinking of the company. “How will our actions today impact tomorrow’s world?” he asked. “We strive to protect and sustain our environment every step of the way, from development and production to customer use and disposal.”
Younger is a testament to the power of the brand’s mission. With a plethora of marketing experience, the opportunity to work with REGUPOL was, as he stated, a no brainer. “I have worked in advertising and marketing for over 30 years and have specialized in multiple industries,” he explained. “For me, marketing environmentally responsible products in the sports/fitness world is about as good as it gets.”
Sustainable Flooring
REGUPOL has over 60 years of recycling experience under its belt. In fact, it’s one of the largest recyclers of elastic raw materials in the world. Its products are comprised of either shredded and cleaned SBR tire rubber, or a combination of that material and vibrant EPDM color granules. All products have between 75% to 100% recycled content in them.
In September 2022, some of REGUPOL’s products became Cradle to Cradle Certified at the Bronze Level. The certification assessment process includes testing, analysis and evaluation of products that enable a healthy, equitable and sustainable future.
The Customer Experience
But reaching such standards hasn’t come from staying the same or a lack of service. Younger noted the way forward has been through a lot of change and dedication to the customer. “From our company’s earliest days, our path to success has always been rooted in product innovation and great service,” he said. “We recognize customer loyalty is driven by small things that are harder to measure. With over six decades of experience we have a long history of success in exceeding expectations by gaining customer trust and confidence. This unwavering devotion to quality — not only product quality but the quality in everything we do — is key to our success.”
In fact, REGUPOL sees customers as the very foundation of its existence. The company and its employees know what flooring clients pick matters. “Choosing the right flooring is a big decision. It’s a large surface area to cover and what you choose will have a major impact on the look, feel and use of each space,” said Younger.
A Closer Look at REGUPOL
As a global company, REGUPOL has customers from 132 different countries. Younger noted most know them through their family of brands:
- Revolution, commercial flooring.
- Aktiv, sports and fitness.
- Sonus, impact sound insulation and vibration isolation.
“Our products are known for their high performance, intuitive design and exceptional reliability,” said Younger.
REGUPOL’s appearance in the global arena has taken off. Some significant points throughout its history include:
- Surfaces were used at the 1997 Olympics in Munich.
- Usain Bolt set the world record in both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics on a Blue REGUPOL track.
- In 2013, REGUPOL impact sound insultation was used at one of the largest and acoustically most advanced concert halls in the world, The Elbphilharmonie.
- REGUPOL became the official flooring sponsor of the CrossFit Games in 2016.
As such, Younger’s statement is true. “At REGUPOL, we know a thing or two about sports and fitness flooring. After all, we invented the technology to turn old tires into rubber flooring that forever changed the fitness world,” he said. “That means our customers benefit from decades of experience and expertise that only we can offer, along with a broad range of flooring choices to fit any space, budget and timeframe.”
A Global Impact
This knowledge has translated into a world-wide impact that has made its way into the campus recreation industry. In fact, Younger shared they want to be the flooring company that best understands and satisfies the product and service needs of student recreation nationwide.
With decades of success since 1954, there’s no doubt REGUPOL can make a green, sustainable impact in campus rec. From its dedication to protect and sustain the environment every step of the way to giving customers the utmost quality in service, REGUPOL is here to make a lasting impact in the campus recreation industry. Like any good thing, that starts with having a solid foundation.
“Concrete and steel beams may be a building’s foundation, but a student recreation center is supported by flexible, durable, sustainable and visually stunning flooring,” said Younger. “If you get the flooring right, everything else is interchangeable.”
