Happy almost New Year!

Tomorrow when the clock strikes midnight, 2015 will be gone and 2016 will be here. With the New Year looming, I feel it is only appropriate to write a blog about resolutions.

I am sure you already have plenty of ideas about what you want to change in 2016 and received numerous tips on how to make sure you stick with it. So instead of offering advice, I will simply reveal my New Year’s resolution and maybe it will inspire your own.

This year, I will invest my time and energy into experiences rather than material things. As a reformed shopaholic, this will be a challenge, but I think taking a trip or spending time with friends and family will be more rewarding than buying a new pair of Lululemons. It may not provide the same instant gratification, but in the long run, material objects fade and memories won’t.

From sleeping in a tent in 100-degree weather at a music festival, to traveling across Brazil with my father, my most fond memories all involved unique experiences. And since time seems to me moving faster than the speed of light, I want to devote this year to experiences and living in the present moment.

I recently realized that it will not be long before my father and I are no longer able to go on adventures together. He is getting older and I am getting busier. Therefore it is crucial that I make the most of our time. Plan another trip and cherish all the moments we have together before it is gone. In 2016 our adventure will be conquering Patagonia.

It is so easy to get caught up in our day-to-day lives: the stress of work, paying bills, staying healthy and so much more. But this New Year I encourage you to slow down, take time, whether it is a weekend getaway and weekly movie night with your family to appreciate all the experiences life has to offer.
