Just decades — maybe even years — ago, collegiate recreation professionals could focus on a much more specific population: People who liked to exercise. But today’s students are more diverse than ever before, and creating hubs where all students want to come for recreation requires new thinking and bold ideas.
As we learn more about mental health, neurodiversity, equity and inclusion, it’s time for bold changes in how we program and design collegiate recreation spaces. That’s how we can create responsive spaces that inspire 100% of student populations to visit our recreation centers and better themselves.
