Mission

The department of Campus Recreation and Wellness creates educationally purposeful experiences through outstanding facilities, programs and services that inspire University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) students and community towards lifelong healthy habits to improve their overall well-being.

Facility(s) Description

The Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness is housed within the 82,000-square-foot Recreation and Wellness Center (RWC). In addition to operating a large indoor facility, the staff also manage the Delta Outdoor Sports Complex and the Rec Sports Complex. The Delta Complex consists of a lit, multi-sport field, a Cricket pitch, two outdoor basketball courts and four outdoors tennis courts. The Rec Sports Complex consists of a lit, multi-sport field and a sand volleyball court. The RWC Field is set outside the recreation facility and is a multi-purpose field. Intramural sports utilize the field in addition to rental groups such as lacrosse and soccer teams.

The Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness is dedicated to offering engaging programs and special events to UHCL students and the campus community. Programs include group fitness classes, intramural sports leagues and tournaments, personal training, small group training, nutritional counseling and social events.

Leadership and management of the facilities and programs is provided by five full-time professional staff and a part time staff of 50 students, making Campus Recreation and Wellness the largest student employer on campus.

Programming Highlights

Group Fitness

15 different class styles, including favorites like Zumba, Pilates and cycle, keep workouts fresh and engaging. With hundreds of participants joining every week, there’s always great energy and a strong sense of community. It’s a fun and exciting way to stay active while trying something new.

Intramural Sports

Cricket, pickleball and badminton tournaments are very popular at UHCL.

Club Sports

Clubs include volleyball, soccer and dodgeball.

Special Events

Campus Recreation and Wellness hosts several special events during the year. Fall events include the Welcome Back Bash and Halloween Fest, while spring includes REColutions and Field Day. From time to time, therapy dogs are brought in for Puppies & Popcorn inspired events.

Fun Facts

  • The Recreation and Wellness Center opened on August 25, 2018 and has quickly become the hub of student activity and engagement on campus. Providing spaces beyond just fitness and recreation, students utilize the student rooms, lobby area, classrooms and balconies for studying, meeting up with friends or just taking some time for themselves.
  • Two robotic mowers cut the RWC Field.
  • The volleyball, soccer and dodgeball club sports teams are a highlight to host, and it has been great to see them grow.
  • The indoor track is a facility highlight and most used area.
