FACILITIES

The Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Recreation Complex, known around campus as the RecPlex, is an 85,360-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility. Originally built in 1979, the RecPlex recently underwent a $22 million renovation, completed in August 2016. The RecPlex offers the Fairfield University community a top-rate recreational experience, through a welcoming and inclusive environment. The facility offers well-rounded sports and exercise programs, personal training services, and top of the line equipment that promotes physical health, emotional well-being, and care of the mind, body and spirit.

In keeping with Jesuit ideals and the Ignatian value of cura personalis, (care of the whole person), the RecPlex offers free memberships to Fairfield University students, and paid membership options to faculty, staff, alumni and their families. Paid memberships are also available to Fairfield College Preparatory School students, faculty, staff, and alumni, and summer memberships are available to Fairfield residents.

PROGRAMMING

Home to the Fairfield University Recreation Department, the three-story facility welcomes members into a spacious light-filled entryway. A strength and conditioning area with state-of-the-art equipment, modern office suites, and the upgraded Birkenstock Field House, with interchangeable basketball, tennis and volleyball courts, highlight the ground level of the RecPlex. Renovated locker rooms, an indoor racquetball court, and five group fitness and exercise studios make up the lower level of the facility. The top level of the building features an elevated indoor track, a mirrored stretching area, and a wide variety of top-end cardio machines. The floor to ceiling glass windows offer members a beautiful view of Fairfield University’s picturesque, tree-lined campus.

The Fairfield Fit program offers close to 50 fitness and group exercise classes per week, such as yoga, zumba, spinning, barre and total body fitness classes. More than 25 club sports, and over 15 different types of intramural leagues and tournaments keep the fieldhouse buzzing seven days a week. The RecPlex also houses an aquatics center with a twenty-five-meter pool, diving boards and a whirlpool tub. The aquatics center is home to Fairfield University’s Division I varsity swimming and diving team, and also hosts local high school swim teams, swim meets and swimming lessons for children.

FUN FACTS

  • The RecPlex hosts Connecticut Special Olympic events.
  • The RecPlex employs over 150 students annually.
  • The RecPlex hosts university career fairs and new student orientation events.
  • The RecPlex facility hosts 28 camps during the summer months.
  • Fairfield’s mascot is Lucas the Stag.
  • Fairfield University President Mark R. Nemec, PhD is a former Rugby Player.
