Steve Troyano left the banking business after 13 years as an assistant vice president of technology.
He headed to Nickerson Corporation as its vice president of sales for school furniture and athletic equipment in the New York City/Long Island School Market. “Nickerson Corporation is the largest K-12 school dealer in the United States, and they are truly a leader in the school furniture and athletic equipment industry,” said Troyano, the product manager of wood and phenolic lockers at List Industries. “I spent 13 great years with the Nickerson Corporation selling List Industries and Art Metal Lockers. When I relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, in 2014, I was hired as the national sales manager for wood and phenolic lockers at List Industries.”
Here he shares about his time at List Industries, the challenges he’s faced and how they’ve found success:
Campus Rec: What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome and how did you overcome it?
Steve Troyano: For me, it has been technology. With so many technology tools at your fingertips, what are the tools to help your company stand out to our clients in the industry? As a former techie, I am always looking for new tools to help us shine in our market. Our marketing department has done a great job finding additional tools to improve our locker renderings which we send to our clients pre-bid, and also keeping our company website on the cutting edge of current technology.
CR: What are the keys to your company’s success?
ST: List Industries always delivers a quality product with every shipment. Quality is paramount to our customers and in turn for our company’s management team. If and when an issue arises with a shipment and the customer has a concern, our customer service department is quick to find a solution. A happy client is the goal at the end of every day.
CR: How does your company differentiate from competitors in the industry?
ST: List Industries is the largest locker manufacturer in the world. As a result, we are the only locker manufacture with a full product line of metal, stainless steel, wood, phenolic, plastic and hybrid lockers. List Industries also has a large line of metal shelving and storage solutions to offer. List Industries currently has six distribution centers nationwide, and we’re soon to be adding a seventh location, which sets us apart from our competition.
CR: What is your vision for your company’s future?
ST: To be proactive in the industry and not be a reactive company. In today’s world, a company needs to be on the cutting edge so their customers feel they are getting a today product and not yesterday’s locker. The management team at List Industries is always looking for ways to improve existing products and looking to design the next generation of lockers or shelving.
