You asked, Campus Rec Magazine has delivered. Introducing Campus Rec Base Camp, an exclusive peer collaboration event specifically for aspiring directors.
It began as survey feedback and conversations at the Campus Rec Leadership Summit. Now, it’s happening for the very first time in 2024.
The two-day event will bring together 30 aspiring directors, a team of executive directors, and eight to 10 sponsors for an impactful time of education and networking. The goal is to prepare and train these aspiring directors in specific leadership abilities, management skills and more to lead campus recreation into the future.
Directors can nominate professionals in the industry for a spot at this inaugural event. It’s happening July 23-25 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland.
Outcomes for Attendees:
- Managing People: self-assess strategies for working with people with varying work styles, identify characteristics and traits of effective supervision and management, and more.
- Leadership Skills: identify characteristics and traits of effective leadership, analyze and evaluate effective communication, strategy and ethical leadership behaviors, etc.
- Strategic Thinking and Planning: learn the six habits of strategic thinking and apply lessons learned through team-based situational challenges, learn the four types of strategic leadership and workshop pros and cons of each, and more.
- Budget/Fiscal Management: develop a program specific budget, learn how to submit a formal budget request with effective justifications, etc.
- Building a Network: develop strategies to build bridges and relationships across campus to support your program, understand ethics and procurement guidelines related to vendor networking, and more.
The two-days of roundtable discussions, projects and workshops will be led by a group of directors from across the country and with a variety of experiences.

The cost to attend is $749 for our early-bird pricing. It includes all food and beverage during event times, all activities, and all education sessions. Hotel rates are $295/night plus taxes and are offered three days pre- and post-event, pending availability.
