In this video, we share the highlights from the inaugural Campus Rec Base Camp, a groundbreaking event designed to equip aspiring directors with essential skills and insights to lead the industry.

Held from July 23-25 at the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland, the event brought together 30 aspiring leaders, six seasoned executive directors and key sponsors for two impactful days of learning, networking and growth.

A Unique Learning Experience

Base Camp was created based on feedback and conversations from the Campus Rec Leadership Summit. It focused on providing up-and-coming leaders with a dynamic blend of education, hands-on learning and opportunities to build a robust professional network. The event offered attendees a comprehensive toolkit to help them succeed as the future of campus recreation.

The event featured a series of educational sessions and roundtables, where participants delved into crucial topics like leadership skills, managing people, strategic planning and fiscal management. Discussing these subjects and considering their responses in hypothetical scenarios with both aspiring and current leaders helped them understand the mindset needed to be a successful director.

Valuable Networking and Mentorship

The event wasn’t just about learning. It also offered ample opportunities for networking and mentorship. Aspiring directors had the chance to connect with like-minded professionals and engage in candid conversations with experienced executive directors. These discussions provided valuable insights into what it takes to succeed in campus recreation leadership.

As the event concluded, attendees left feeling empowered and ready to bring what they learned back to their campuses. The connections made and the skills acquired at Base Camp will undoubtedly shape the future of campus recreation leadership.
