At the inaugural event of Campus Rec Base Camp, Matrix Fitness will be the premier sponsor.
“Matrix Fitness has elected to be the premier partner at Base Camp due to the phenomenal experiences we’ve had in the past being the premier partner at the Campus Rec Leadership Summit,” said Marc Loomer, the national sales manager – collegiate recreation at Matrix.
The two-day event will bring together 30 aspiring directors, a team of executive directors, and sponsors for an impactful time of education and networking. The goal is to prepare and train these aspiring directors in specific leadership abilities, management skills and more to lead campus recreation into the future.
A group of directors will lead the event education and networking. The leadership team includes:
- Cyndi Costanzo of the University of Connecticut
- Gary Wohlstetter of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County
- Grady Sheffield of Towson University
- Coulson Thomas of Old Dominion University
- Felicia Tittle of Duke University
- Chantelle Lancaster of Hardin-Simmons University
Rebecca Peoples, the east region collegiate recreation director at Matrix, quoted Costanzo when sharing how the event came about: “She said it best: ‘The leaders of tomorrow need the leaders of today,’” recalled Peoples. “The Base Camp idea was born at the Leadership Summit last summer by attending directors who were seeking to provide assistant directors across the country with high-level teaching, guidance and coaching. Backing these education-focused, servant-natured collegiate recreation leaders initiating such a cool offering aligns perfectly with our values at Matrix.”
The two days of roundtables, workshops and projects look to achieve increased skills in managing people, leadership, strategic thinking and planning, budget/fiscal management, and networking.
“We’re excited to hear the fresh perspective from the next wave of campus rec leaders, while under the mentorship of highly regarded directors from around the country,” said Loomer. “We consider this a valuable investment in fostering innovation, promoting networking and providing unique professional development within campus rec.”
But Matrix hopes the impact goes far beyond this event. “I’m looking forward to seeing the unique post-Base Camp mentoring and on-going development between current and future leaders,” said Peoples. “It’s strategically built into the overall experience plan, and I cannot wait to watch it unfold throughout the year.”
Base Camp is happening July 23-25 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland. Directors can nominate professionals in the industry for a spot at this inaugural event. Interested? Email heather@peakemedia.com or fill out this nomination form.
