Time files, and before you know it summer will be over. The new school year will be upon us, and you will be tasked with hiring new staff to work within your recreation center. Ensuring that your recreation center runs like a well-oiled machine comes down to a high-performing, trustworthy and engaging staff.

And of course, having determined staff starts with the hiring process. It is essential to perfect your hiring process to ensure that each and every employee you hire is an excellent fit for your recreation center culture. So over the next few months, as you embark on a hiring journey, here are a few of my favorite question to ask potential hires.

What does teamwork mean to you?

If you won a million dollars in the lottery, what would you do with the money?

If you could open your own business, what would it be and why?

What’s the greatest work day of your life?

Describe your ideal working environment?

Where do you want to be in 5 years and why?

What sets you apart from the crowd?

What personal skill or work habits have you struggled to improve?

What concerns you most about this job and why?

What would your friends tell us about you?

Check out this Ted Talk by Regina Hartley on why the best hire might not have the perfect resume.
