We want to take a moment and acknowledge the winners of the 2020 NIRSA Awards.
It’s a huge feat to be recognized, and a high honor.
Bob Golson, the associate director for facilities and operations at James Madison University, said when he got the call on February 24, he was shocked. NIRSA Foundation chair Janice DeMonsi congratulated him on being recognized as the NIRSA Foundation Leadership Award recipient.
“Immediately after it sunk in, I was humbled and honored to be recognized alongside the other past award recipients,” said Golson. “NIRSA and the Foundation has been an organization that has provided me so much over the years; a career, lifelong colleagues and friends, and a place to give back so others can have the same experience I have had for more than 20 years.”
The winner of the Research and Assessment Award — which “recognizes a NIRSA member who has made extraordinary contributions toward advancing research and assessment initiatives on their campus and/or for NIRSA” — had a similar response to Golson. “I very much appreciate the recognition and want to send out a big thank you to those who nominated me,” said Todd Misener, the chief Wellness Officer at Oklahoma State University. “Our profession is lifted higher through research; I want to encourage all my colleagues in NIRSA to build on the evidence base and collectively lift our profession to higher heights.”
