Programming
Aquatics
- Approximately 195 members utilize the pool every week. Additionally, over 16 hours of pool time are reserved for the men’s and women’s swim and water polo club teams as well as open kayak for students and community members.
- Aquatics collaborates with several other departments within the rec and the Boise State community. It offers kayaking classes and sessions in partnership with the Outdoor Program, canoe battleship with Intramurals, and swimming courses with the Kinesiology department.
- Campus Recreation is consistently the leading American Red Cross certificate provider in the state of Idaho, certifying over 200 students and community members each year. The certifications range in CPR/AED, First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, lifeguarding, etc.
Fitness
- In 2022, the Fitness Program increased its class offerings by 33.6% and experienced a 12.5% increase in average class size. In total, they’ve completed 591 personal training sessions, checked-in 15,417group fitness class participants and served 2,091 distinct participants.
- The Fitness Program regularly collaborates with BroncoFit, Boise State’s Wellness Department, to implement an annual Body Acceptance Week. During this week, Campus Recreation staff receive Body Acceptance Training, instructors host Body Acceptance themed classes and affirmations are placed all around the Rec Center. There is also a table at the rec to promote activities to promote Body Acceptance.
- The Fitness Program hosts an annual Yoga on the Blue event at Albertsons Stadium. In 2022, 368 participants of all ages from the Boise Community attended Yoga on the Blue.
Facility Operations
- The Rec Center experiences an average of 10,500 visits per week.
- Approximately 55 to 65 hours of scheduled informal recreation is offered between the sports of volleyball, pickleball, badminton, indoor soccer and wheelchair basketball.
- It partners with the Department of Early and Special Education to employ students enrolled in the Community and Career Readiness Studies Certificate through the Providing Exceptional Education and Raising Standards Program. This partnership allows students enrolled in the program to gain experience in job responsibilities, expectations and navigating a staff culture.
- Through special event reservations, the department partners with numerous campus departments to provide community building or services that are otherwise not available to Boise State students. A few examples include the Condom Carnival with Boise State BroncoFit, Rec Nights with TRIO Upward Bound and swim lessons with the Multilingual Student Alliance for women refugees. A few examples of events servicing the residents of Treasure Valley, Idaho in the same capacity include Inclusive Sports Day with Special Olympics Idaho, College Prep Day with the Idaho Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired and hosting the State Championships for the Idaho High School Lacrosse League.
- Boise State is the first public university to integrate RecRe in a recreation center to create a more streamlined self-service equipment check out process. In alignment with RecRe, we have also added a Towel Tracker unit which is also a self-service station for towel service. Both of these items have offered a more seamless experience for our users as well as create free time for staff to focus on more critical duties throughout the facility.

The Outdoor Rental Center processed over 1,200 outdoor equipment rentals and the climbing gym experienced 4,400 visits and completed 450 belay certifications.
