Cal Poly Pomona Partners with Alvarado

For years, Alvarado has been the choice for Recreation & Wellness Centers throughout North America. Alvarado’s turnstiles and gates are designed to integrate with club management software and automate the member check-in process. Alvarado’s solutions are proven in the field with hundreds of campus recreation installations. While offering a wide range of solutions for any application and budget, the company’s experience ensures that each project goes smoothly.

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, partnered with Alvarado to address their turnstile needs. Krista Smith, the director of recreation at Cal Poly Pomona, shares her experience working with the company.

Campus Rec Magazine: How were you introduced to Alvarado and why did you decide to partner with them?

Krista Smith: They were recommended by our security provider. Alvarado’s Optical Turnstiles provided a beautiful functional solution to support our access control and their slim cabinets ensured we could maximize the number of lanes within our space limitations.

CR: What are the benefits to the rec center as a result of working with Alvarado?

KS: After two years of heavy use, the turnstiles have required almost no maintenance, so the students can depend on them for reliable entry and egress. The BRIC staff are grateful to have this high tech solution that does not require frequent repairs.

CR: Have you been pleasantly surprised by working with Alvarado in any way?

KS: By selecting Alvarado, the goal was to avoid the pitfalls that other campuses had experienced during their installation and operation of alternative turnstile solutions. Personally, the Alvarado turnstiles have surpassed my expectations.

CR: What else can you tell recreation professionals about the benefits of working with Alvarado?

KS: The access control point should be one of the most functional features of your building — it could make or break a student’s first impression of your facility and its operation. An effective solution requires a knowledgeable contractor paired with the right turnstile solution (for us, Alvarado) and integration or coordination with your IT department and member management software. Invest the resources and plan well — it will be worth it.
