CannonDesign has helped both Boston College and the University of North Carolina (UNC) Charlotte open dynamic recreation centers in recent months.

At Boston College, the Connell Recreation Center is a game changer for current and future students. A beacon and inspiring addition to the campus, the center offers a fitness center, rock climbing wall, jogging track, aquatics center, basketball courts, indoor tennis, an elevated jogging track — perfect for Boston Marathon training — mind-body studio, group exercise rooms and fitness neighborhoods throughout the facility.

Open less than a year, the 244,000-square-foot facility is already having significant impact. Early data revealed a 25% increase in student recreation memberships and a 40% increase in activity and usage.

At UNC Charlotte, the school opened its first campus facility dedicated solely to health and recreation. Set to help students lead healthier lives for generations, the center offers a wide variety of recreation opportunities thanks to multi-purpose courts, indoor and outdoor pools, group fitness studios, a cycling studio, an elevated running/walking track, space for cardio, weights, and more.

“Nothing brings our team more joy than helping institutions create dynamic spaces where students can pursue wellness and reach new heights of health,” said Colleen McKenna, the director of CannonDesign’s recreation and sports practice. “We’re so proud to have worked with both Boston College and UNC Charlotte on these centers.”
