Mission
At the University of Southern California (USC), Recreational Sports strives to foster a positive and welcoming environment that develops healthy lifestyles and campus involvement. Every program, facility, and event is designed to enhance the personal development of all students, staff, faculty, alumni and guests. By providing a place for Trojans with similar interests to engage with one another, Recreational Sports also promotes inclusivity and unity.
The mission of USC Recreational Sports is to provide the university community the opportunity to pursue a balanced, healthy lifestyle through participation in recreational activities.
Facility Descriptions
USC offers a comprehensive network of recreational facilities designed to support fitness, wellness, and intramural sports for students, faculty, staff, alumni and guests.
At the center is the Lyon Recreation Center, an approximately 80,000-square-foot facility serving as the primary hub for recreational sports. It includes multiple indoor courts for basketball, volleyball, pickleball and badminton, as well as extensive cardio and strength-training areas and specialized fitness and group exercise spaces, including an F45 studio and a CrossFit studio.

Attached to the Lyon Center is the Uytengsu Aquatics Center, a state-of-the-art outdoor complex originally built for the 1984 Olympics. It features competition and dive pools used for both varsity athletics and recreational lap swimming, as well as aquatics programs such as club swimming and water polo.
Recreational Sports also operates the Village Fitness Center, a newer 30,000-square-foot facility located in USC Village. It offers modern weight rooms, cardio equipment, multiple studios for cycling, yoga and functional training, and social lounge spaces.
Additional facilities include the HSC Fitness Center at the Health Sciences Campus, providing cardio and strength equipment, group exercise rooms and an outdoor court; the historic Physical Education Building, which houses gymnasiums and an indoor pool; and Allyson Felix Field, home of the USC Track and Field team as well as Club Sports practice and competition sites.
Programming Highlights
Nike Friday Night Lift Club at USC is a high-energy, late-night fitness event that transforms the Village Fitness Center into a social strength training experience from 7–10 p.m., featuring workouts designed by the Nike Sport Research Lab, Nike trainers, a live DJ and immersive activations. Hosted by USC Recreational Sports, it blends fitness, community, and entertainment to create a new kind of nightlife centered on health, connection and student engagement. The program also serves as a positive alternative to traditional Friday night activities, encouraging students to build strength, socialize and help shape the future of training culture with Nike.

Rec Fest at USC is a large-scale campus event held each Fall and Spring semester that connects thousands of students with Recreational Sports opportunities. More than 55 club sports programs come together to showcase their teams, recruit new members and engage directly with attendees, while the department also promotes its full range of semester offerings, including intramurals, fitness and wellness programs. The event creates a vibrant, festival-like atmosphere and serves as a key entry point for students to discover activities, build community and get involved on campus.
