Mission

The mission of Campus Recreation at Adelphi University is to foster a healthy and active lifestyle among the campus community. In promoting the motto to “Have Fun, Be Active,” Campus Recreation aspires to be the best part of every student’s day.

Through competitive sports, fitness, and a variety of recreational activities and events, Campus Recreation is dedicated to supporting the university’s goal of creating a full student life experience and a positive work environment for faculty and staff.

Facility Descriptions

The 76,000-square-foot Center for Recreation and Sports (CRS) opened in 2008, providing students, staff and faculty with a range of rec offerings. The indoor track offers views of Garden City from its three-lane walking and jogging path. A three-court gymnasium for basketball, volleyball, badminton and more is located on the third level of the CRS.

Originally opened in 1929, Woodruff Hall was renovated and reopened in the fall of 2009, blending traditional charm with modern activity. The state-of-the-art 5,000-square-foot fitness center located within the facility has everything needed for a full workout. The center includes Cybex selectorized weight training circuits, free weight stations, cable machines, a stretching area, and cardio machines from Life Fitness and Precor with entertainment features.

Also located in Woodruff Hall is the 25-yard, four-lane Arvilla E. Nolan swimming pool. Lanes are designated for lap swimming during open swim times. On the third floor, the functional training fitness studio is an alternative space used for fitness classes, personal and small group training, and walk-in recreational use.

Four newly built tennis courts sit at the south end of the outdoor soccer and lacrosse complex. Additionally, Motamed Field, William J. Bonomo Baseball Field, Janet L. Ficke Softball Field and Turf Practice Field are available for recreational use during the regular semester by reservation.

Programming Highlights

  • The Introductory Personal Training Program is a collaboration between Campus Recreation and Exercise Science. Students receive a personalized exercise training program that’s customized for their fitness level and work with a trainer twice a week for six weeks.
  • Group fitness classes allow students to work out in a group setting for extra motivation. Classes include Barre, kickboxing, Pilates, various types of yoga and more.
  • The Adelphi Competitive Esports Program offers students the chance to be a part of a dynamic community where gaming meets competition and camaraderie. As a member of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the program offers opportunities for solo gaming and team-based challenges.
