During this 2021 season of thankfulness, it seems appropriate to spend some time thinking through what you are thankful for in the campus recreation industry this year. This is especially true after several years of turmoil and upheaval.

Below, several directors share their thoughts after having been asked the question:

What is something professional you are thankful for this year?

“I’m thankful for the dedication of our professional, graduate, student and part-time staff within Cleveland State University Recreation Services. It takes every individual on our team to successfully deliver outstanding programs and services in an award-winning facility to our students, faculty, staff, alumni and community patrons.”

Nick Froelich | Director | CENTERS at Cleveland State University Campus Recreation Services

“I am thankful for a boss that supports my enthusiasm for professional development.”

Tiffany Lomax | Director of Recreation Services | Colby College

“I am thankful for the grace, patience, resilience and dedication of our team. It has been an incredibly difficult year to successfully take care of ourselves, each other and the people we serve. It has been an imperfect learning experience, but our staff care deeply and keep trying.”

Maureen McGonagle | Director of Campus Recreation | DePaul University

“During this unprecedented year, I have watched with awe as my professional and student team conquer and prevail. I am inspired by their resilience and passion to move our university forward. I am thankful for the partners, spouses, families and friends that have anchored us so we can step up daily.”

Kenny Moore | Director of the Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center | Vanderbilt University

“I’m thankful for the resemblance of normal for our students and programs. I’m also thankful for new challenges and opportunities to learn and grow professionally.”

D.J. Preston | Director of Recreation and Wellness | Radford University
