Precor

Finding the best choice of equipment for your rec center is key.

For Brian Mills, the director of campus recreation and wellness at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, it’s Precor.

He discovered them while working at Stephen F. Austin State University during construction of the student recreation wellness center. “While I was not responsible for the fitness component of that project, I remember how great they were working with our director and coordinators, the quality of the equipment, and the way they were dedicated to ensuring we had everything our students wanted,” said Mills. “Marathon Fitness, our vendor, is based out of the Houston area.”

He shares on partnering with Precor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake below.

Campus Rec: Why did you decide to partner with Precor?

Brian Mills: We selected Precor because of the quality of their equipment, the dedication and creativity they showed with their proposal for our space and how we could best utilize it, and their outstanding customer service. Our representative, Clint Cooper, was an amazing partner for our project and he was so responsive to our needs and questions throughout the entire process. His expertise in collegiate recreation and industry trends was extremely helpful.

CR: What do you like about partnering with Precor? What pieces of equipment/products do you use and why?

BM: We have enjoyed how they have continued to check in frequently with our facility and the equipment. They have repeatedly stopped by to see how the entire department was doing, not just their equipment.

All of our strength equipment, from dumbbells to plate loaded to pin select equipment, is all Precor. We chose Precor ellipticals and AMT’s for our cardio equipment, and we also have several pieces of cardio/ab equipment.

Personally, the strength equipment is outstanding. We have had so many compliments on the look, feel, and functionality of the strength equipment from our patrons and tours. Working with Clint on the facility equipment layout, he was able to ensure that we have focal points in each space that showcase unique parts of the facility while maintaining a functional nature.

CR: How has this partnership benefited your rec center?

BM: Marathon Fitness has been a tremendous asset to our entire project from the second they walked into my office. While reviewing proposals for equipment, theirs stood out because of their understanding of current trends, wants, and needs of collegiate recreation and fitness centers. The scope of their equipment met almost all of our needs which made our decision very simple. Marathon and Precor provided educational opportunities for our staff in terms of training and development to enhance our knowledge and assisted us in obtaining new certifications for group fitness and small group training.

CR: Is there anything that has pleasantly surprised you about working with Precor?

BM: The entire experience has been extremely pleasant. I have enjoyed every call, meeting or visit Marathon Fitness has been involved with. Their willingness to meet our staff on our level and make sure we understand our equipment, how it works, and how to best utilize it has been amazing. Their service team has been very quick in responding to work orders and they have been prompt and professional.

Precor equipment was the best choice for our new facility and our patrons have been very pleased with our wide range of equipment and how it is laid out in our spaces.
