Mission
The Human Performance Center’s (HPC) mission is to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for Utah Tech University’s (UT) fee-paying community of students, faculty and staff. Departments within the multi-use, shared facility will exhibit a willingness to provide academic, recreational, athletic and wellness opportunities that educate, empower and inspire the campus community.
The HPC welcomes community members’ attendance and participation in publicly hosted events. The building is used by Campus Recreation, Academics, Athletics, UT Student Government and more on-campus groups.
Vision
To engage and develop all Trailblazers for a healthy lifestyle.
Description of Facility
The HPC provides an on-campus “Active Learning. Active Life.” facility for UT students, faculty and staff. The center is something many in the area have not seen before. The beauty on the outside of the building is only part of the HPC’s grandeur. As patrons/visitors walk around the building, they are amazed at everything that’s inside.
Opening in 2019, this building is the first of its kind and is called a fusion-style building. It’s approximately 155,000 square feet. Half of the building is recreation space and the other half is academic space. The HPC has five different floors of fitness for students, faculty and staff to enjoy. It also has multiple floors of academic classrooms and labs. This ranges from the Olympic-sized swimming pool on the street level to the roof of the building having pickleball, basketball and an outdoor track. The state-of-the-art facility offers students and members the opportunity to use activity space to exercise, dance or participate in recreational sports.
Aquatics
The pool space is a shared space between Academics, Campus Recreation and Athletics. The HPC pool is the home of the UT women’s swim team and features multiple diving boards. Other activities for students, faculty and staff to enjoy in the pool are log rollers, a Wibit obstacle course, Cross-Net and Spikebouy. There is also a 20-person spa for patrons to enjoy. Multiple sessions of swimming lessons are held each summer.
The aquatics area hosts dive camps/clinics, lifeguarding and unique (adaptive) swimming lessons, and multiple youth, high school and colligate swim meets during the year. The space provides a place for physical fitness, lap swimming and leisure to individuals with different fitness goals in mind. The site also hosted the Huntsman World Senior Games swim event, and Iron Man athletes from all over the world train in the pool in preparation for the Iron Man competition in St. George, Utah.
Esports Lounge
The lounge can be used by UT students during building hours. It’s also the home for all competitive UT esports teams. Players compete against other schools across the country in video game competitions across several game genres and titles.
