Mission

Creighton University Recreation + Wellness promotes healthy living, growth, community and fun. We do this through providing fitness & wellness programs, sport programs, employment opportunities and strong campus collaborations. Our goal is to educate students on how to live healthier lives by helping them develop skills through our programs and services.

Facility(s) Description

The Kiewit Fitness Center (KFC) is the main recreation center on campus and has transformed into one of the best recreational facilities in Omaha after a number of recent renovations. Two large weight rooms offer state-of-the-art cardio machines, free weight equipment and strength machines. Locker rooms include day-use and long-term locker rentals, plus a sauna for members to use.

The KFC includes two multi-purpose rooms which house the majority of our fitness programming and are reservable for student organizations. There are five gym courts that support basketball, volleyball, tennis, pickleball and badminton as well as university and student-led events. Bordering the courts, there is a running track and additional cardio equipment. Members have the ability to book hour-long sessions in the two golf simulators added last October.

Lastly, our facility has an esports suite where students can play a variety of games, but also is home to the Esports club sport team that competes in the Big East Conference. Included in this space are gaming PC’s and all the major gaming consoles. The KFC continues to make improvements to enhance the user experience, but also achieve our mission and goals.

ESPORTS

Programming Highlights

We are unique because we have the largest open space for events on campus. We host the university’s Welcome Weekend, several major student events and have strong connections with the City of Omaha. This past year we ran our first department 5K and hosted a record number of wellness events. Our club sport teams had very competitive seasons, with many making national tournaments and finishing in the top ten of their sport.

One of the newest programming additions is our golf simulators, which were completed this past October. Even though Creighton only has around 8,500 students, we see a high percentage of use. This past year 5,677 distinct users swiped into the facility 283,619 times. In the summer we run a six-week kids’ camp. This program has grown over the past two years and has become one of the most in-demand summer camps in the city. Camp registration opened in February, and most sessions were sold out by the end of March — a first for us.

Fun Facts

  • Last year we filled in a pool and created a new 7,200 square foot weight room.
  • Our club Quadball team won the national championship last year and the club baseball team made the semifinals of the club college world series in just their 2nd year in the D1 division.
  • One of our most popular programs is our Blender Bike, which runs weekly. It’s a bike that blends smoothies as students ride and features a new, dietitian-approved recipe each week.
