The fourth annual Campus Rec Leadership Summit will take place June 17-19, 2020 at the five-star Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage. Forty campus rec executives alongside limited sponsors will gather for two days of roundtable discussions, networking and fun. The Summit is an intimate event designed to connect and build relationships among peers and suppliers.
The event kicks off the first morning with our second annual Campus Rec Golf Scramble at the Indian Wells golf course.
Attendees will dive into five roundtables over two days with topics including: The Mental Health Crisis, Data/Analytics, Programming: Alternative/Adaptive Recreation, Trending Technology and The Future: Strategic Planning.
Roundtable topics are formulated based on attendee suggestions, feedback and from the event moderator. For example, the Mental Health Crisis topic is one many attendees from the 2019 Summit highly recommended for this year’s event. University recreation centers are having to adapt and incorporate mental health services in their offerings for the growing need in the student population, and many schools are at different levels of adoption of this. Our moderator for the Summit, Grady Sheffield of Towson University, will be leading attendees and sponsors through discussions that will produce tangible takeaways and insights for any size of recreation center.
Andrew Chadick, the senior associate director of programs and assessment at the University of Texas at San Antonio, attended the Summit in 2019. Labeling it as “one of the best professional development experiences” he’s been part of, Chadick said he can’t wait to return to experience the benefit of the roundtables. “Being able to discuss the current and future trends and challenges of our industry with leaders from around the country was invaluable,” he said. “The small group setting creates an intimate atmosphere where real dialogue can be held.”
New this year, more time has been scheduled for attendees with sponsors and for recreation time. Demo hours will incorporate structured time with each vendor, encouraging solutions and conversations with attendees for their specific needs.
The Summit also facilitates a lot of fun. Attendees will participate in a wine tasting competition planned the first night and a group rowing competition sponsored by Technogym the next day. A private dinner at the Edge Steakhouse on property will also be hosted by our premier sponsor Matrix the second evening.
