In less than a month, I’ll be heading to the 2023 Athletic Business Show.
In my years as Campus Rec Magazine’s editor, I have yet to attend this trade show. As such, I’m excited to experience it for the first time in Baltimore, Maryland, November 1-4.
One aspect I find very neat about this show is how it acts as a cross-section of industry gatherings. From campus rec and athletics to those in parks and recreation, you can find a variety of health and fitness professionals looking to learn and grow during this show.
In addition, a few sessions have caught my eye that I’d especially like to attend:
Every Campus a Park — Expand your Reach to Create Student Success
Speaker: Laurie Braden
This session will highlight ways to include elements and equipment that will promote inclusive health and recreation activities in open spaces, at transportation stops, near housing facilities and other campus gathering areas. Learn how to expand recreation and fitness opportunities to your students, faculty and staff by embracing the concept of every campus a park and learn how to engage your campus stakeholders to make this happen.
Leaders! You Need to Develop Talent and Plan for Succession
Speakers: Maureen McGonagle and Joanna Prociuk
Organizations are often dramatically unprepared for turnover in leadership positions. Talent development and succession planning should be an ongoing concern with leaders. Learn how to identify talent potential and the performance patterns needed for specific leadership roles; learn about the link between professional development and succession planning; and learn how to develop strong talent to build your leadership pipeline.
Discover Wellbeing: From Theory to Practice
Speaker: Steven Trotter
Creating impactful wellbeing programs is more than throwing spaghetti against a wall and seeing what sticks. There is also more to it than getting so lost in health behavior theory that the program doesn’t attract anyone. This session will blend the perfect amount of behavior change models and strategic marketing principles for a recipe that will keep your students and members coming back for more.
In addition to the education, there is going to be a lot to explore on the expo floor. To help you get started, you’ll want to check out these must-see companies:
- AllChem
- Avant-Garde
- CannonDesign
- Matrix Fitness
- Mondo
- REGUPOL
- Spectrum Industries
And you should come visit Campus Rec Magazine at Booth #723. The staff at the show would love to meet you, hear about what is going on the industry and simply connect.
Expo Hours:
- Thursday, November 2 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- Friday, November 3 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.
All in all, I see this show as simply another opportunity to meet in-person, find out the latest product and services trends, and learn more about what’s going on within health and fitness.
If you’re at the show, come say hello. To set up an appointment to meet there, email heather@peakemedia.com.
I look forward to seeing you in Baltimore.
