What Are You Procrastinating?

Procrastination is avoidance of doing a task which needs to be accomplished, the practice of doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones. I never thought procrastination was an issue for me. In school I always got my work done before anything else. In fact, when I know I need to get things done, I can’t do anything else.

However, my co-worker recently showed Tim Urban’s Ted Talk on procrastination. While I might be good at prioritizing and executing my daily tasks, procrastination can also have long-term effects. It really got me thinking. Are there things in life that I have been putting off? Of course, when I thought about it hard enough, the answer was yes.

For example one of my top goals is to complete an Iron Man triathlon. I had originally planned to do it this summer. But then work got busy, I had a few injuries and now I have pushed that date back to who knows when.

Not only is Urban’s perspective on procrastination funny, but it is also very insightful. I encourage all of you to take a few minutes to watch the video and then think about if there are things in life you have been putting off.

Want to know how to beat procrastination? It’s possible. I’ve been struggling with it for the last 15 years maybe. I tried everything. Keeping myself organized, making to do lists, writing down my dreams, keeping pictures of all the things I wanted in life and so on. The only thing that really worked for me and helped me turn my life around was procrastination bulldozer method.
