Discover how WellnessSpace Brands can help campus recreation departments enhance student wellness, recovery and engagement with minimal operational oversight.

As student wellness continues to evolve beyond traditional fitness programming, campus recreation leaders are seeking innovative ways to support recovery, stress management and overall well-being. At the same time, many departments face staffing limitations, budget pressures and increasing expectations to deliver impactful experiences that attract and retain students.

WellnessSpace Brands addresses these challenges with two recovery-focused solutions: the RedZone Sauna and PolarWave Dry Plunge. Designed specifically for high-traffic recreation and wellness environments, both products provide premium wellness experiences while minimizing operational demands on staff.

Meeting Growing Demand for Recovery and Wellness

Today’s students are increasingly interested in wellness modalities that support both physical and mental health. Recovery spaces, relaxation experiences and stress-reduction resources have become valuable additions to campus rec centers as institutions work to promote holistic well-being.

The RedZone Sauna combines infrared heat and red light therapy in a self-guided experience that supports relaxation, recovery and overall wellness. Built for commercial environments, the sauna features customizable sessions, commercial-grade construction and integrated safety controls, allowing campus rec departments to offer a premium amenity without creating additional administrative burdens.

Similarly, the PolarWave Dry Plunge delivers the benefits of cold exposure without many of the challenges associated with traditional cold-water immersion systems. Because users remain fully clothed and no water is required, facilities can eliminate concerns related to plumbing, sanitation protocols, water maintenance and towel service while still providing an engaging recovery experience.

Reducing Operational Complexity

One of the biggest challenges facing campus rec directors is balancing innovation with operational efficiency. New amenities often require additional staffing, training and maintenance resources.

RedZone and PolarWave were designed to overcome those barriers through fully self-guided experiences that require minimal staff involvement. Automated functionality, intuitive touchscreen controls and streamlined user experiences allow students to independently access wellness services while staff focus on other priorities.

Both products are also integrated with WellnessSpace Brands’ Control 2.0 platform, which provides remote monitoring, diagnostics, software updates and usage analytics. This allows campus rec leaders to track engagement, monitor performance and manage operations from a centralized platform.

Creating More Value From Existing Space

Many campus rec departments are exploring ways to maximize underutilized spaces while expanding wellness programming. Recovery lounges, wellness studios and multipurpose wellness areas can help institutions diversify offerings without significant facility expansions.

WellnessSpace Brands

A recent partnership between Indiana University Bloomington (IU) and WellnessSpace Brands demonstrates the potential impact of dedicated wellness spaces. By transforming underutilized space within the Student Recreational Sports Center into a Wellness Studio focused on recovery and well-being, the university created a destination that quickly resonated with students.

The Wellness Studio recorded more than 12,000 recovery sessions during its first semester of operation. Women’s participation exceeded overall recreation center usage by 7.4%, while graduate student engagement was 5.3% higher than overall facility usage. Freshmen also emerged as the most active users, demonstrating strong early adoption of wellness-focused habits.

“This partnership has been game-changing, improving the student experience at IU Campus Recreational Sports and adding to our toolkit to help improve the health and well-being of the IU community,” said Josh Downing, the associate director of programming at IU. “We saw over 12,000 sessions in the first semester alone.”

A Scalable Solution for Modern Campus Recreation

As student expectations continue to shift toward comprehensive wellness experiences, campus rec leaders an opportunity to differentiate their facilities through innovative recovery and wellness offerings.

By combining premium wellness modalities with low-maintenance operation, RedZone Sauna and PolarWave Dry Plunge provide a scalable solution for departments seeking to enhance student wellness, increase facility value and support engagement goals without increasing staffing demands.
