The Johnson Center at the University of New Mexico (UNM) is both old and new, and every milestone in between. It originally opened in 1957 as the venue for the University basketball team. There’s been five to seven expansion and renovation projects, with the latest completed in 2021.
UNM serves a very diverse population as it’s a major Hispanic serving intuition as well as a D1 research institution. The programs and the facilities that serve this population are versatile and serve several stakeholders — the College of Education which offers classes in basketball, weight training, volleyball, etc. UNM also shares with Athletics, specifically being the home for the women’s varsity volleyball team and swim team.
