Why Directors Won’t Miss the Leadership Summit

John Sweeney has been to the annual Campus Rec Leadership Summit for three years, and he isn’t planning to miss the next one.

“It is one of the best conference formats I have attended in my professional career,” said Sweeney.

The Campus Rec Leadership Summit will take place June 14-16, 2022 at the five-star Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage in Rancho Mirage, California. Roundtables will be moderated by Laurie Braden of Louisiana State University. During the two-and-a-half-day event, campus rec professionals from across the nation will learn from one another in peer-to-peer roundtables and networking opportunities.

“The Summit is a great combination of professional development sessions, quality time to interact with other participants and vendors from around the country, social gatherings, and some very fun activities,” said Sweeney.

But he isn’t only the director who wouldn’t miss the annual Campus Rec Leadership Summit. Several others shared below why they encourage colleagues to attend:

Emily McElwain
Director of Recreation Services and Facilities
Colorado State University Pueblo

“Attending the Campus Rec Leadership Summit is my favorite professional development opportunity. The mix of professional roundtables paired with entertaining social activities creates an environment to make lasting and meaningful professional connections. The small group format Campus Rec has chosen is what has made me want to return as often as I can. I have enjoyed getting to connect with my peers, some great vendors and the Campus Rec team over the years because I know I can reach out to them whenever I need professional advice and they will answer my call.”

Jorge Juarez
Executive Director
Arizona State University

“What brings me back to the Summit is the relationship I build with vendors and the intimate small group discussion. In speaking with vendors and their expertise, I use that information to help me in my department. The small group discussion is so helpful at every level of college size.”

Iisha Voltz
Director of Campus Recreation and Wellness
Texas Southern University

“This past year, I thoroughly enjoyed my first Campus Recreation Summit because it was both informative and engaging. Attending a Summit designed specifically for campus recreation directors created an environment of transparency and openness with those who may be or have been through similar experiences as you. I would strongly recommend this Summit to any director in need of a relaxing getaway to unwind, regroup and be reminded of the important role you play in this industry.”

Have you registered yet? Because spots are going fast for the 2022 Campus Rec Leadership Summit.

“Do yourself a favor and register now for the next conference in Rancho Mirage, California,” said Sweeney. “You won’t regret it.”
