Abacus Sports Gets It Right the First Time at Millersville University

The original floor system at Millersville University’s open rec gym just wasn’t holding up. And it was only four years old. So, Steven Strock, the project manager, knew they had to replace it. That’s when he got connected with Abacus Sports.

“We’ve worked with James Proud at Abacus Sports since we started looking into first repairing — then replacing — a failing floor system in our open rec gym in 2015,” said Strock.

Since then, their partnership has grown. Abacus Sports has gone on to impact not only the Student Rec Center at Millersville, but also the Carpenter-Trout Athletic Training Center.

Below, Strock shares more on the partnership with Abacus Sports.

Abacus Sports

Campus Rec Magazine: Why did you decide to partner with Abacus Sports?

Steven Strock: Their experience with sports flooring was required by us to try and repair our existing flooring and then to come up with a good, durable replacement of a system that would best meet our specific needs going forward. On the Carpenter Trout Athletic Training Center, they presented a product that fit the vision of our Athletic director — as well as our needs in a weight training facility — perfectly.

CRM: What benefits have you seen from this partnership for your users?

SS: Less need for follow up repairs to the system they recommended and installed even with greater use. The quality of their work as well as their knowledge of this kind of work was a great benefit to the university.

CRM: What has pleasantly surprised you about this partnership with Abacus Sports?

SS: Their willingness to come out to the site on short notice when we have an issue or concern — which isn’t often due to the quality of their product and installation.

CRM: Is there anything else other campus rec professionals should know about partnering with Abacus Sports?

SS: They are knowledgeable about the various flooring systems and can point you in the right direction the first time. It’s also good to have someone with this much experience in sports flooring willing to spend time walking us through our project — not just from a product standpoint but installation also. They made my job easy as a facility project manager — no complaints on any of their installations from myself or the end users.  In fact, only praise for the product.

Having met with other product representatives, I can say Abacus is by far the most trustworthy and they get it right the first time.
