 MISSION 

 

Recreational Services of Kansas State University strives to educate and is committed to the development, promotion and management of quality recreation facilities, services and programs for the Kansas State community. Supported by student privilege fees, Recreational Services strives to improve the students experience at Kansas State University. Students are the foundation of our programs and staff.

FACILITIES 

 

The Kansas State Recreational Services’ facilities are housed in the Chester E. Peters Recreation Complex and the Ahearn Natatorium (swimming pools). Expanded in 2013, the K-State Chester E. Peters Recreation Complex is a 257,000 square foot facility. The facility features 14 racquetball courts; two squash courts; 13 volleyball and basketball courts; two weight/strengths rooms; four group fitness studios; two indoor running/walking tracks; a combative room; personal training studio; locker rooms with saunas; a 40-foot climbing wall and bouldering rock; Quik Cats Café, and a game lounge. Our outdoor facilities include basketball, sand volleyball, tennis, racquetball, and handball courts. Our building averages over 760,000 swipes into the building throughout the year. The Natatorium includes two 25-yard pools and diving well with a 3-meter and 1-meter boards.

PROGRAMMING

Recreational Services encompasses a variety of program areas including Aquatics, Fitness, Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Challenge Course, Climbing Wall, and Outdoor Rental Center. K-State’s Intramural program offers over 50 different individual, team, and meet sports throughout the year. Our Intramural program averages more than 6,000 active participants per semester. Our Fitness program strives to provide exceptional fitness programming to promote health and wellness to our K-State campus community. There are more than 50 group fit classes offered each and every week during the semester including, yoga, cycling, and cardio fitness classes. Along with group fitness we also offer personal training. Last year members worked out a total of 3,500 hours with certified personal trainers.

The K-State Challenge Course is an experiential adventure program that offers groups and individuals the opportunity to engage in a series of personal development and team building activities. We customize programming that caters to people of all ages and physical abilities. The K-State Sport Clubs program is housed with Recreational Services. We currently have 30 different Sport Club teams with over 700 active participants. The Wildcat Wellness Coalition is a collaborative effort between Recreational Services and 5 other K-State departments including Lafene Health Services, Counseling Services, LGBT Resources, in efforts to focus on student development via the 8 dimensions of wellness.

  • Kansas State University ranks #2 on the National Collegiate Fitness Index.
  • Facilities and programs funded by student privilege fees and student supported.
  • We employ more than 400 students during the academic year. Making us one of the largest student employers on campus.
  • This fall the K-State Recreational Services will launch a new incentive program called the Wildcat Challenge. This incentive based physical wellness challenge is comprised of four different challenges: Swim Tuttle, the Mile High Challenge, Commit to be Fit, and 2 Fit 2 Quit.
