The James V. Sullivan Recreation and Fitness Complex at the University of Southern Maine (USM) was in desperate need of new fitness equipment. As a possible solution, Kevin Normand, the manager of the complex, said he wanted to work with Matrix because of the high-end cardio equipment line they offered him a few years ago.

“We wanted to transform all three campus fitness centers to include USM colors and logos on every piece of equipment, ranging from cardio down to a 5-pound plate,” said Normand. ”The Matrix sales representative Nick Sweatt and I worked on many designs and layouts while ultimately focusing on quality and top-of-the-line strength equipment for the whole university community. ”

To assist other professionals in their research of quality equipment, Normand shared more on the beneficial partnership with Matrix Fitness below:

Campus Rec Magazine: How long have you been a customer of Matrix?

Kevin Normand: Almost a year but I have been working on the fitness equipment project for over three years now.

CRM: What are the benefits to your campus rec department as a result of this partnership?

KN: We do not have a rec department at USM, but I have been pushing to get one established. Our Athletic department has been loving the new equipment. There have been hundreds of athletes utilizing the new Matrix equipment with much success. The free weights and squat racks have been a bonus on and off the field.

CRM: What are the benefits to your users as a result of this partnership?

KN: We have had hundreds of students, staff and community members personally come up to our staff and tell us the equipment is amazing and easy to use. Students telling other students to use the gym is proof of exactly why Matrix was the correct choice for USM.

CRM: Have you been pleasantly surprised by working with Matrix in any way?

KN: In working with Matrix, I have experienced professionalism and a willingness to go above and beyond for their customers.

CRM: What else can you tell other campus rec professionals about the benefits of working with Matrix?

KN: Another benefit of working with Matrix is their warranty on equipment and their customer service is top notch. All the sales representatives I worked with over the last three years were excellent as well.
