Synthetic turf is an increasingly attractive option for rec centers wishing to save money on maintenance while also delivering state-of-the-art facilities for visitors. That’s why Auburn University Recreation and Wellness found an ideal partner in Shaw Sports Turf.

“We’ve been a customer of Shaw Sports Turf for six years,” said Matt Sinclair, the associate director for Recreation and Wellness, Facilities and Operations at Auburn University. “They furnish tremendous support and listen to the needs of our university and vision.”

Below, Sinclair discusses what brought his department to Shaw Sports Turf, surprises from the partnership and more.

Why did you decide to partner with Shaw Sports Turf? What problem were you looking to solve; or what solution were you looking to incorporate?

MS: We teamed up with Shaw to provide our top-of-the-line synthetic turf for the innovative new SportsPlex. Their wealth of experience and expertise proved invaluable in bringing this sprawling 30-acre facility to life, ensuring every field was as vibrant and functional as the athletes who will soon play on it.

Have you been pleasantly surprised by working with this company in any way?

MS: The artificial turf has proven to be straightforward, requiring minimal effort while maintaining its vibrant appearance. Its durability has been impressive, withstanding various activities effortlessly, from intense sports matches to casual recreational use. This resilience ensures that it remains in excellent condition even after heavy play, making it an ideal choice for our students.

What else can you tell other campus rec center professionals about the benefits of working with Shaw Sports Turf?

MS: Shaw has been a valuable partner for Auburn, fostering a natural working relationship. They have consistently offered support and shared their knowledge from the start of the project to the present. We couldn’t have asked for a better partner for this endeavor.
