In this video, Heather Hartmann, the editor of Campus Rec Magazine, talks with Morgan Monroe, the manager of Fitness and Well-being at the Bruin Fitness Center at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Monroe shares insights into how the university is using BeaverFit Shred Sheds to expand outdoor fitness, offset increased indoor facility demand and create new programming opportunities. BeaverFit has become a key partner in helping UCLA reimagine recreation space with durable, flexible outdoor training solutions.
Monroe explains that the Shred Sheds were originally envisioned during the pandemic as a way to keep students active outdoors, but they’ve since evolved into a highly valued extension of UCLA’s recreation offerings. With six sheds on the upper concourse and a larger locker on the lower level, the setup supports everything from open recreation to personal training and club sports. She also highlights how the outdoor space helps alleviate crowding across UCLA’s other facilities as enrollment climbs, while giving students a unique opportunity to work out in the stadium environment. The sheds have begun attracting regular users, and ongoing marketing efforts — including signage and a YouTube walkthrough — continue to grow awareness and engagement across campus.
