On the cover of the most recent issue of Campus Rec Magazine is Louisiana State University (LSU). This spring the university just opened its newly renovated and expanded Student Recreation Center after beginning construction in 2014.
While you can get all the details about the renovation project in the cover story, photos do not do this facility justice. As Executive Director Laurie Braden took me on a tour of the 231,335-square-foot facility, there were so many cool features to highlight from the leisure pool in the shape of LSU to the 25-yard turf ramp. However, as a runner, one of the features that really stood out to me was the indoor track.
Having spent a lot of time on the track doing sprint workouts, I know that it can get boring. This is not the case with the indoor track at LSU. The 1/5-mile long track is not your typical oval. Instead it weaves up and down, in and out, all around the facility. As you run you pass the climbing wall, then down by the basketball courts, up along the floor-to-ceiling windows looking out at the leisure pool. There is nothing ordinary about this track, or this facility in general.
So as I said, photos would not do it justice. Here is a quick video with a look inside the facility and at the indoor track.
