From Inflatable Dome to Year‑Round Facility: Mt. Hood Community College’s Partnership with DynaDome

In this customer spotlight, Charles George, the associate vice president of Facilities, Public Safety and Risk Management at Mt. Hood Community College, shares how a six-year partnership with DynaDome turned an ambitious vision into reality.

When the college’s aging inflatable structure over its outdoor 50-meter pool reached the end of its life, George and his team saw an opportunity to do more than simply replace it. Their goal was a year-round, fully functional aquatics center in the Pacific Northwest, which is no small feat.

After exploring their options, they connected with DynaDome. From the very first conversation, the experience stood out. Rather than presenting an off-the-shelf product, the DynaDome team asked what Mt. Hood was trying to accomplish and built the partnership from there.

George speaks to what has set DynaDome apart throughout the process: site visits, genuine listening and a willingness to adapt their designs to fit the college’s specific needs, including added spectator seating and custom site considerations.

With construction currently underway, George said the community, students and local partners are already buzzing with excitement about what’s coming.

His advice to other campus rec professionals is straightforward: don’t underestimate what DynaDome is willing to do, and bring them into the conversation early. For George, going directly to DynaDome sooner would have saved significant time and effort — and the results they’re working toward make it clear why.
