Are your gyms, courts and equipment event-ready? Before grabbing a weight or ball, it pays to make disinfection a focus. With a growing awareness of germs and outbreaks everywhere, keeping personnel and students healthy on campus through. disinfectant is more important than ever.

Whether you’re a college student, athlete or someone who wants to just stay fit and active, disinfection is key to maintaining a safe, hygienic environment to make sure the worst-case scenario stays a hypothetical.

However, not all disinfectants are created equal. Some can be too harsh and cause damage to the surfaces being disinfected. Some can even pose instant and residual health risks. That’s why it’s important to choose a disinfectant that’s both effective and safe.

Here are two factors to consider:
  1. First, consider the long-term cost of disinfection. While some products may seem like a good deal at first, they can end up costing you more in the long run. They will do this if they damage the surfaces they’re used on. That’s why it’s important to choose a disinfectant that’s gentle on surfaces and won’t cause discoloration or corrosion over time. It saves you money by avoiding costly repairs or replacements.
  2. Another important factor to consider is efficiency. Nobody wants to spend hours disinfecting a gym or a basketball court. That’s why it’s important to choose a disinfectant that’s easy to use and won’t take up too much time. After all, the sooner you’re done disinfecting, the sooner your facility schedule can get back to normal.
So, what product should you choose?

While there are many options out there, disinfectants such as hydrogen peroxide have been proven to be effective against a wide range of germs and viruses — including the flu and norovirus. Plus, they remain gentle on surfaces. This makes them a safer and cost-effective option when compared to abrasive cleaners such as quats. In fact, consolidating cleaners and disinfectants can save money and simplify the process, while still maintaining the highest levels of cleanliness.

A case study from a disinfection provider for West Virginia University highlighted just how effective hydrogen peroxide disinfectants can be. When the university’s basketball team was hit by an influenza outbreak, they turned to a local cleaning and restoration company for help. The company used ionized hydrogen peroxide to thoroughly disinfect the entire athletics facility. Thanks to the disinfectant’s effectiveness and efficiency, the team was back in action within just two days.

Disinfection is a crucial component of maintaining a safer and hygienic environment. By choosing a disinfectant that’s simultaneously fast, effective and powerful, you can stay leagues ahead by keeping health and activity a priority.
